Following the first year of the program, six Teaching Fellows will be selected.
Each Teaching Fellow will develop content expertise in one of the six core themes. They will acquire this expertise through directed readings with an OSU faculty member, auditing classes, working with the Project Archivist, and attending and presenting at professional conferences. They will assist teachers in the project's subsequent years by making presentations on their content areas, helping teachers with their research projects, and reviewing lessons for alignment with the state standards in American history.
Teaching Fellows will assist the Project Director, Project Archivist, and faculty advisors in preparing the monthly seminars and summer workshops, suggesting teaching topics and advising on readings and assignments for sessions in their core theme.
In addition, Teaching Fellows will receive training from the Teachers Curriculum Institute to become History Alive! coaches. They will learn how to give short History Alive! presentations to their colleagues, helping all CPS American history teachers convert their new content knowledge into improved classroom exercises.
