Allow students, in groups or individually, to examine the primary source linked under Resources to the right, while answering the questions below in order. The questions are designed to guide students into a deeper analysis of the source and sharpen associated cognitive skills.

Level I: Description

2. When did the photo take place?

Level II: Interpretation
1. What details in the picture provide information into what is happening?
2. How would you describe the type of people in the picture?

Level III: Analysis
1. How would you show your understanding of the people in the picture?
2. What evidence in the picture shows that this is the Ohio National Guard?

  • Social Studies Skills and Methods 6-8, Benchmark B: Organize historical information in text or graphic format and analyze the information in order to draw conclusions.
