Cornerstone Lecture Series

history works | cornerstone lecture series

The Cornerstone Lecture Series is an important component of History WORKS that will build connections between elementary, middle, and high school social studies teachers throughout Columbus and ensure that the teaching of American history as a separate subject remains an important focus district-wide. This series brings noted experts in the field of American history to Columbus three times each year to deliver keynote addresses on topics relating to the core themes.

Following the lecture, the teachers in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion with master elementary and secondary teachers who will explain local connections to the speaker's theme and its implications for the classroom.

The History WORKS project has concluded it's three year run serving the grades 6-12 Social Studies teachers in the Columbus Public Schools.

This site is a product of the work undertaken. Inside you will find teacher-generated and tested, standards-aligned and primary source-based activities that can be directly incorporated in the Ohio Social Studies Curriculum.

The Ohio Historical Society, The Ohio State University and the Columbus Public Schools look forward to continuing their commitment to improving History education through the collaborative development of innovative resources for teachers and students in Ohio.

Thank you.
